Babymooning in Mexico

My husband and I were invited to a destination wedding in Mexico when I was 6 months pregnant and decided to roll the trip into a babymoon.  We stayed at the beautiful Rosewood Mayakoba, about a 40 minute drive south of the Cancun airport, in Playa Del Carmen.  We had arranged for the hotel to provide us with transportation from the airport and were delighted when we were escorted to a black SUV by a lovely man who handed us water (for me) and Corona (for my husband) as soon as we were settled into our seats.  When we arrived at the resort–which also shares property with The Banyan Tree Mayakoba and The Fairmont Mayakoba–we were escorted through an open-air lobby to a private check-in desk.  After receiving our room assignment, we were guided down a grand spiral staircase, down to a line of small boats docked on a canal.  Our “captain” greeted us with cayenne-spiced pineapple and water and began our private tour of the resort by boat, which ended on the private dock of our Lagoon Studio Suite.

The suite itself was stunning, with a King size bed, an outdoor shower, a private sundeck on top of the room and a private heated plunge pool overlooking the canal in the back of the room.  Our room came standard with Butler service, and we had a lovely woman attending to our needs for the duration of our stay.

After settling into the room, we wandered around the stunning property.  The grounds were lush, with tree-lined pathways that occasionally connected to charming bridges which sat over the waters of the canals.  We were often passed by people riding bicycles,  a complimentary amenity provided to guests during their stay. We wound our way from our room to the beach, passing several restaurants and pools along the way.

As the sun set over the ocean, we slowly made our way back to our room to shower and get ready for dinner, which was a tasting menu of Mexican delicacies at the Punta Bonita restaurant overlooking the beach.  We spent the next few days eating, working out, or soaking up sun on the beach.

In addition to  the beautiful surroundings and exceptional service, I treasured the quiet and privacy that defined our stay at Rosewood Mayakoba.  It often felt like we were the only two people on the resort which was exactly what we were hoping to experience on our babymoon.
