The Big Sur Foragers Festival at Ventana Inn

As I mentioned in 2015, food foraging is one of the hottest new trends in hospitality. While most of the coolest emerging trends can be fleeting, foraging is actually older than civilization itself. Yet, in an age when even the most exotic ingredients are readily available from the local grocery store, there’s something insanely compelling–almost ethereal–about the thought of creating complex flavor profiles from wild food sources.

I recently came across this lovely morsel (pun intended!) about the upcoming 2016 Big Sur Food Foraging Festival at Ventana Inn & Spa.

While the hotel may already be sold out, tickets to many of the weekend’s activities are still available. Here are a few events on the agenda for the 2016 Food Foraging Festival:

  •  “Fungus Faceoff at Ventana”:  A friendly competition among some of the area’s notable chefs featuring chanterelles and other fabulous fungi. Attendees also have an opportunity to cast their vote for “People’s Choice”. Witness as local chefs create dishes highlighting the flavors of locally sourced mushrooms.
  • Grand Celebrity Chef Dinner at Ventana Inn & Spa: A “Foragers Dinner” at the Restaurant at Ventana, a multi-course dinner, destined to be a memorable feast paired with an incredible wine selection.

If these events are appealing to you, I encourage you to keep Simply Juicy Travel on your radar for future foraging experiences!
